Dessert story is a warm friendly place where you can get home cooked taste dessert that just melts your heart and warms your soul. The original stores were known as “Anytime Food ” and the very first store was birthed on August 2006 at Hougang. It serves great tasting Traditional Chinese Dessert (or “Tong Shui” as it is known in Cantonese) and has built up a large base of loyal customers. Their menu ranges from Hot Desserts to Frosty Ice. Dessert story supplies newly cooked desserts daily. It has six outlets in Singapore.

I love ice cream and Cheng Tng!

However, the branch I frequent at NEX, is certainly not meeting expectations.
I tried their mango snow ice and it tasted rather bad.
The syrup tasted very artificial and far too sweet.
Other deserts served are of a smaller portion and their Cheng Tng is a little too blend in my opinion.
For the serving portions, it is definitely overpriced.

On the other hand, this place is suitable for get-together chit chat sessions over snacks.
Perhaps, it is only this branch that isn’t as good as the others.
Time to pick another dessert store!

They've got quite a number of outlets around Singapore, including Bishan and Chua Chu Kang... but I always find myself at the Hougang outlet. Every single time I'm there i have a great hangout/ catch up with my friends. It's a really great place for that too!

I personally like both their peanut and sasame paste. Really rich, thick and creamy. I've had a few before at other stores that was a total scam-- the flavour was not as strong and it was thin. I can't finish the entire bowl myself though. Halfway through the creamy goodness makes me sick instead and hence I always share one with my mum or friend.

Same goes for the Mango ice. The portions huge, I could share it with two friends. They come in other flavours as well, like matcha and strawberry. My favourite's the mango, followed by the strawberry. They give generous toppings as well!

Price is a tad on the high high side, though.

I love the branch at Choa Chu Kang.

It is the number one place I go to when I feel rich. I'm a really strange person, I keep coming back to patronize this stall even though I know the food is nothing impressive. So since it's a usual haunt, let me tell you about my favorite dishes.

This place serves good ice cream. But it's not the usual scoops and tubs, these ice creams are served in cute little containers and they are shredded, hence my affectionate term for them -- paper ice cream.

The ice cream doesn't have time to travel down your throat, it just dissolves inside your mouth. After the first few scoops it gets really tiring, so share it with a friend!

Bestselling flavors would be Strawberry and Mango. Try their pudding, my grandma apparently swears by it but I haven't personally tried.

A place for dessert lovers.

I think Dessert Story’s black sesame paste is just heavenly. Not too thick, not too sweet and not too diluted either. When I took the first scoop, I was really quite impressed with its quality; it has the authentic taste of black sesame and its strong taste just overwhelms your senses for a few moments – no exaggeration there! Plus, it is served fresh from the pot! In addition, just for the price of about $3-4, I think it is a pretty good deal.

I think Dessert Story is good for a visit when you are out with your friends, and you face that confusing moment when you feel a little hungry yet have not worked up the appetite for a proper meal; and you just want to sit down and cool down after a few hours of tiring yourself out.
Ingredients for the various dishes are more or less pre cooked, so the waiting time is only about a few minutes; pretty fast!

Nevertheless, personally, I still prefer Honeymoon Dessert. Their desserts just have that extra ‘oomph’ factor – fresh, soft and sweet fruits, an abundance of juice, and solid flavours. Dessert Story, however, is slightly cheaper than Honeymoon Dessert; comparatively, differs with a few dollars on the average.

Dessert Story - The name pretty much tells you what they specialize at! They sell Chinese desserts such as milk pudding and tangyuan. They also sell food like zhu chang fen. The highlight of this dessert place for me, though, would be their shaved ice.

Dessert Story has quite a few unique shaved ice flavours, such as champagne grape and Milo. Each flavour comes with a topping, such as nata de coco or Milo powder. You can mix and match flavours to different toppings, although I am quite sure the cashier will be giving you weird stares if you were to ask for strawberry shaved ice with Milo powder, haha.

And it is all affordable!

My favourite shaved ice flavour is Milo, because I am an avid Milo fan. It is really cool how the shaved ice tastes like Milo after you freeze it, and it melts in your mouth so it does kind of feel like you are drinking iced Milo too! The Milo powder and condensed milk topping reminds me of the beverage Milo Dinosaur. It is just so yummy and full of flavour, and so unique because I don't think you will find anywhere else that sells shaved ice of such a flavour. Mmmm, delicious! Milo lovers MUST try this!!

Dessert Story is where you can find affordable chinese desserts such as tangyuan (ah bo ling), sesame / almond /peanut paste, yam / pumpkin / carrot cake, herbal jelly (gui ling gao) and even snow ice.

Whenever I have a craving for sesame paste, I will always turn to Dessert Story which has many outlets island wide. You might also want to know that the different pastes can be mixed together upon request (sesame and almond goes well). I also like their mango snow ice although I find that they tend to top it off with too little mango sauce or mango fruit, hence there won't be enough to finish off all the ice with. More can be added at an additional charge though.

One problem is that some of the branches tend to have different standards. I have heard that the outlet at Kovan isn't too good, so do choose carefully which branch you patronize.

Desserts Story sells a range of hot and cold, sweet and savoury chinese snacks. The most popular of which would be their Taiwanese shaved ice desserts - with flavours like green tea, milo, mango, strawberry and black sesame with fresh toppings of fruits, nata de coco and red beans. The shaved ice is comparable to the ones sold in Taiwan in terms of texture and flavour.

The warm desserts like yam paste and sesame paste are also up to standard. They're both aptly thick and smooth when it runs down your throat. The sesame paste is better than the yam paste, which is too sweet for my liking (couldn't finish it).

What I also like at desserts story is their yam, pumpkin and carrot cakes (comes in a set). They are all of adequate proportion and are right in their taste and texture. My family had to order another plate of it after one.

Service at dessert story is also fab. The aunties are very warm and friendly, striking small conversations with us while helping to clear our dishes.

Providing a wide range of cold and hot desserts and snacks, Dessert Story is a great place to enjoy refreshing desserts after a hard day at school or work.

For me, I like the milk pudding and water chestnut with egg. The milk pudding is soft and does not have a strong smell or taste of milk. The mild hint of milk in the pudding makes it a platable dessert. As for the water chestnut with egg, a choice of having it either hot or cold is provided. The cold one is preferred, especially with the hot weather in Singapore. I like the combination of crunchy water chestnut and burst of tasty sweet corn together with smooth and slightly starchy sweet soup.

Dessert Story also serves light oriental snacks like chee cheong fun and carrot cake. They are not worth purchasing though, as the taste is stale and merely heated from a packet of frozen products and served to consumers.

The prices of the desserts and snacks are a little expensive for the quality. Although Dessert Story does not the best desserts around, it serves as a good subsitute for any dessert cravings. The service crew is generally made up of matured ladies who are good-natured and cheerful.

Craving for desserts while doing shopping and lazy to head towards food market from the mall? Dessert Story is there for you! Although most food market dessert stalls sell at a lower price, it is worthy to spend a bit more to enjoy a bowl of yummy dessert at a cooling and comfortable place. I love Mango Snow Ice as the ice is smooth and real fruit is added along with mango syrup. Hot and cold desserts taste good, DS did not reduce ingredients to save cost, that's why all the desserts are rich in flavour.

DS also sells snacks like carrot cake, yam cake and more. I prefer the pumpkin cake as it is pan fried evenly, leaving a crispy outer layer, soft and a tint of sweetness on every bite. The service crews are friendly and efficient. They always clear the tables immediately after customers have left or have finished the desserts. Perhaps the cost is slightly higher and not really for budget people.

What can be better than a bowl of dessert to end off your meal? Dessert Story is one of my few favourite places for satisfying my sweet tooth. I’m not that big on sweet stuff actually but occasionally I do have a craving and when I do, I’m picky. I eat only a few kinds and Dessert Story has almost all that desserts that I like!

There’s Mango Sago with Pomelo which is very popular. I tried a new flavor last week and it is now my new favourite! It’s the Egg Pudding with Ginger! Another one of my few choices is the white fungus with longan.

The Mango Sago is a bit too thick for my liking. I’ve tried way better mango sago before and the price is only slightly higher than Dessert Story’s. But it’s still decent and besides, it’s convenient too as there are many outlets around the island!

Egg Pudding with Ginger is available both hot and cold and both are equally good! It’s extremely smooth and soft and it simply melted in my mouth. The ginger taste is just right, not too bland and not overpowering too. The egg and ginger go well together and it’s really yummy!

The white fungus with longan is average. They put in a lot of ingredients though. The soup can be improved by making it less thick. But it’s still okay because it’s not expensive.

Dessert Story would be a nice place to have a chat over some yummy desserts but it’s usually cramped and very noisy.
