Sichuan Kingdom is situated at what I personally called the "Sichuan Lane" at Outram Road (Tiong Bahru) as there must be like 3-4 Sichuan eateries situated just side by side each other at this old walk-up building beside the Wangz Hotel. In fact, once I even accidentally walked into another Sichuan restaurant thinking it was the Sichuan Kingdom. Either I am one "blur" fellow or it's just the "overlapping" situation....

I have to sheepishly admit I was recommended to this eatery by my friend from Russia, who is a regular guest at Wangz Hotel whenever he transited in town en route to Bali. With his absolute penchant for spicy Asian food, Sichuan Kingdom became the de-facto meeting place.

So what endeared this eatery to someone from so far away (in fact it also became my fave Sichuan restaurant) ? I list the pluses as follows:

- Ambience. The restaurant is clean and comfy.

- Service. The staff gave good service most times when we were there ( but do not order the dessert with the main course as they will whipped out the dessert pronto and serve even before we finish the main..despite reminding them not to do so..)

- The spicy hotpot ! of course... the mala hotpot is divided into 2 section- of mild herbal soup and the fiery mala soup...go easy if you can't handle the spiciness or risk stomach upset (you have been warned). The hotpot portion are ala carte and not a 1 price eat-all buffet type.
So do watch what you ordered...

- Other spicy dishes - great eats like spicy Sichuan frog legs, deep fried chicken, etc are all great dishes (just look for the menu with chilli symbols indicating spiciness intensity).

So do check out Sichuan Kingdom the next time you need something to fire up your taste buds....Bon appetit !
